Gas fireplace parts and repair decisions

A gas fireplace valve controls fuel within the appliance’s approved system. When the burner does not light, the valve is only one possible cause. The signal, power or millivolt circuit, wiring and flame-proving sequence need to be checked before valve replacement is approved.

Symptoms that justify assessment, not a parts order

Reported symptom What must be distinguished
Pilot is lit; main burner remains off A missing heat request, control-circuit issue or a confirmed valve fault.
Ignition fails with a pilot-related message Pilot establishment, wiring, flame sensing and the applicable valve circuit.
Flame height does not change as expected The selected operating mode, control command and compatible valve system.
Gas odour, hissing or an inability to shut down normally An urgent safety problem, not a normal appointment or repeated restart.

Why a click or error message is not enough

A clicking sound may occur elsewhere in the ignition or control sequence. An error can describe the point where the system stopped while leaving several possible causes. Ask what measurement or observation establishes a valve defect rather than a missing signal or damaged connection.

The repair technician must use the model’s procedure. Do not connect power to valve terminals, bridge a switch circuit, loosen fittings or turn internal adjustment screws. Changing fuel pressure is not a safe experiment.

What determines the correct replacement valve?

The model, serial range, fuel and control generation matter. A standing-pilot valve and an electronically controlled valve are not interchangeable simply because both supply a burner. Mounting, approved fittings, regulator configuration and electrical compatibility must agree with the appliance instructions.

A published parts number can be superseded. The quotation should identify how the replacement is confirmed for your installation. Fuel conversion requires its own approved scope and instructions; it is not accomplished by installing whichever valve is available.

What the replacement scope should include

  • Evidence that the valve is the failed component.
  • The approved replacement and related materials required for the model.
  • Safe isolation, access and installation by a qualified person.
  • The required leak, operating and shutdown checks after the work.
  • A clear parts-and-labour price and any supply delay or return visit.

If the control circuit or vent condition also needs repair, that work belongs in the same decision. A new valve will not correct an unresolved fault elsewhere.

Repair the component or compare a new appliance?

A confirmed valve failure can justify component replacement when the rest of the appliance is serviceable and a supported valve is available. Compare a new fireplace when an essential approved control cannot be supplied or substantial additional defects remain. Evaluate the full installation scope rather than equipment price alone.

Questions before you book

Can a valve be selected from a photograph?

A photo helps identify the installed arrangement. The appliance documents, full model, serial number and fuel still need verification.

Is a valve included in the diagnostic fee?

Bernoulli’s diagnostic fee is separate from approved replacement parts, materials and repair labour.

Local repair and your next decision

Bernoulli Heating & Cooling serves Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley. Book a diagnostic visit for a fault, choose fireplace service for planned maintenance, or compare fireplace installation and replacement when the appliance needs changing.

The existing-fireplace diagnostic appointment is $135. Repair labour, approved parts and required materials are extra. See what the diagnostic fee covers before booking.

For local appointment information, use Vancouver fireplace repair, Delta fireplace repair or White Rock fireplace repair. Send the model, serial photo, city and a brief description with your request.

Manufacturer references

Use the document for the exact appliance, fuel, revision and installed accessories. The examples on this page explain decisions; they do not identify a replacement part for your fireplace.
