Gas fireplace parts and repair decisions
An ignition module or control board manages part of the electronic fireplace sequence. A lockout can be the control stopping operation because another condition has not been satisfied. An error message does not automatically mean that the board itself has failed.
Control systems are not one universal platform
Terms such as Proflame, IntelliFire Touch, receiver and ignition module describe different components or systems. Even within a named platform, revisions and accessory configurations matter. Identify the appliance and installed control before looking up a reset, code or replacement.
For an IntelliFire Touch example, the manufacturer’s field guide distinguishes the main electronic control module from auxiliary, radio and power components. That example shows why “replace the board” is too vague to define a complete repair.
Where is the sequence stopping?
| Observation | Possible diagnostic area |
|---|---|
| No response to a normal heat request | User controls, available power and the request reaching the system. |
| No reliable ignition spark | Ignition components, connections and the model-specific control sequence. |
| Pilot appears; the system locks out | Flame recognition and conditions needed to continue operation. |
| Flame works; fan or lights do not | Accessory power, accessory configuration and the relevant control path. |
Record the error before resetting anything
Write down the complete display message or blink sequence and when it occurs. Note a recent power outage, battery change, accessory addition or previous module replacement. A short video of one naturally occurring failure can help without creating more failed ignition cycles.
Use only owner-authorised checks in the exact manual. Do not keep cycling power to defeat a repeated safety lockout. Do not bridge interlocks, probe live electronics or alter wiring to make the burner start.
When replacement is justified
A replacement module is appropriate when the model-specific diagnostic process confirms its failure. Before fitting it, the technician should address any damaged connections, power problem or other identified cause that could prevent the new control from functioning.
The replacement must match the supported appliance configuration. Ask whether the proposed part needs an approved harness, power supply, remote or accessory arrangement. Commissioning should confirm the functions installed in your fireplace, not just the presence of a pilot flame.
When the repair may involve another component
A battery, adapter, connection, electrode or flame-sensing problem can interrupt an otherwise functional control sequence. Fault diagnosis separates these possibilities. If an approved module or compatible control set is unavailable, compare a supported appliance replacement rather than an improvised electronics conversion.
A useful quotation identifies the module or other failed item, the parts reference, supply conditions, labour and the operating checks included. Keep the recorded code with the service invoice for future diagnosis.
Questions before you book
Can one blink code identify the failed part?
It can direct diagnosis on the matching system. The same number on another control can have a different meaning.
Will a control board fix a power-outage problem?
First identify the model’s power and backup arrangement. A power issue does not, by itself, prove a board failure.
Local repair and your next decision
Bernoulli Heating & Cooling serves Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley. Book a diagnostic visit for a fault, choose fireplace service for planned maintenance, or compare fireplace installation and replacement when the appliance needs changing.
The existing-fireplace diagnostic appointment is $135. Repair labour, approved parts and required materials are extra. See what the diagnostic fee covers before booking.
For local appointment information, use Surrey fireplace repair, Port Coquitlam fireplace repair or Pitt Meadows fireplace repair. Send the model, serial photo, city and a brief description with your request.
