Brand-specific gas fireplace support
A Napoleon fireplace that clicks without lighting needs the ignition sequence checked before a valve, pilot or control module is ordered. Start with the complete gas-appliance model; Napoleon’s gas and electric fireplace documentation describe different systems.
Use the Canadian model documentation
Napoleon’s Canadian support site provides owner resources and a parts route through authorised dealers. Keep the rating-plate photo, serial number, fuel type and installation paperwork together. The exact model manual establishes which controls and replacement assemblies belong in the appliance.
For example, the HD81-1 CSA manual treats pilot ignition, flame sensing and control faults separately. It also requires its replacement glass and frame to be supplied as a complete assembly. That is a model-specific instruction, not permission to use the same glass or repair method on every Napoleon fireplace.
Explain the fault without naming a part first
| Observation | What it helps the technician separate |
|---|---|
| Clicking with no established pilot | Ignition, pilot delivery and flame-establishment faults. |
| Pilot establishes; operation stops shortly afterwards | Flame recognition, connections and the control sequence. |
| Remote or switch appears unresponsive | User settings, power and the appliance’s request for heat. |
| Cracked glass or a loose sealed front | Approved glass-assembly requirements and the condition of the frame and seal. |
Maintenance, component replacement and warranty
A repair scope should explain whether cleaning or correcting an approved connection restores reliable operation, or whether an item has failed and needs replacement. Ask for the part description, compatible model reference, labour and any required return visit.
If damage involves the pilot electrode, sensor, module or valve, the surrounding circuit still needs testing. Replacing a module without addressing a damaged lead or another underlying fault can waste the new part. Manufacturer troubleshooting belongs with the qualified technician; do not copy internal gas adjustments from a video.
If the fireplace is under warranty, contact the selling authorised dealer with the purchase details. Confirm coverage before paying for a part on the assumption that it will be reimbursed. Bernoulli’s diagnostic pricing does not establish manufacturer warranty approval.
Compare the total scope before replacing the appliance
One confirmed, supported failure may justify repair. A replacement project becomes more relevant when essential assemblies cannot be supplied, the firebox or vent system needs substantial work, or the existing heat output and appearance no longer fit your plans. Compare the complete installed project, including finishing, with the repair scope.
Questions before you book
Can I replace cracked Napoleon glass with cut-to-size glass?
Use only the replacement permitted for the exact model. Some models require the supplied glass and frame assembly. Stop using a fireplace with damaged or unsecured glass.
Does clicking prove that the ignition module works?
It proves that a sound or spark event occurred. It does not establish that the pilot lights, the flame is recognised or the full sequence completes.
Local repair and your next decision
Bernoulli Heating & Cooling serves Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley. Book a diagnostic visit for a fault, choose fireplace service for planned maintenance, or compare fireplace installation and replacement when the appliance needs changing.
The existing-fireplace diagnostic appointment is $135. Repair labour, approved parts and required materials are extra. See what the diagnostic fee covers before booking.
For local appointment information, use Surrey fireplace repair, Port Coquitlam fireplace repair or Langley fireplace repair. Send the model, serial photo, city and a brief description with your request.
